Africa: Juveniles in Prisons: prisons105

Kampala, Uganda
Ugandan street kids play with kids in the rehabilitation home for juveniles who have been convicted of petty crimes at the rehabilitation home for juveniles in Kampala, Uganda, November 19, 2006. Uganda has one remand home for juveniles who have yet to be tried, and one rehabilitation home in Kampala, Uganda. Across Africa, dozens of suspected juveniles are mixed with adult prisoners in prisons, but because of a lack of birth certificates, and a gross lack of resources for separate facilities, it is difficult for officials to provide separate facilities for children from adults.
